The Effect of Play Therapist¡¯s Counter-Transference Management Ability on the Therapeutic Relationship

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of play therapist¡¯s counter-transference management ability on the therapeutic relationship. The subjects of this study were 111 play therapist who are counseling children under 18 years of age. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis and multi-regression analysis. The result indicated that play therapist who has higher empathic ability and self-integration, showed the higher degree of therapeutic relationship between child and therapist. When the play therapist has higher empathic ability, the degree of positive emotional relationships between child and therapist, parents and therapist is higher. The play therapist who has higher self-integration showed higher negative emotional relationship between child and therapist. When the play therapist has higher empathic ability and self-integration, the degree of therapeutic helping relationship between parents and therapist is higher.
